My name is John Punnett, I live in Hawkinge, and have lived in the area all my 75 years,

I was a member of the Hawkinge parish at the time and our district councillor then was Susan Carey who donated some of her funds to install a flagpole at the memorial in Aerodrome road, this has never happened, the money has been absorbed in HPC accounts and I now want to see the pole installed in memory to Roy Humphries, who paid, for the memorial out his own pocket, as it stands now, sadly Roy is not with us now.

The HPC excuse has been, who will hoist and lower the flag, I have been told the Union flag has to be lowered each night, is this true, but a squadron flag could fly all the time.
When your members meet at the memorial I am sure they would like to see the national flag run up. Regards, John Punnett Phone 01303892075

In short, no. Redemptor Domus was not written to a ‘genre’ and there can be no follow up. That’s normally a recipe for a publishing disaster but I could only have one book of that intensity in me. I’m not a manipulator of my readership, such as that may prove to be.

My usual domain is technical articles in house magazines. I do have another project in the offing but it’s an analysis of a rather public miscarriage of justice. As to when that will appear, whereas the novelist can just make it up as he/she goes along, research takes time and costs money.

I certainly felt that parts of the book were passing me by, simply because of the depth of the writing and my own impatience to get to the end, so I will definitely reread it at some point as I know there were bits that I will have missed!

PS Is there another book coming at any stage, Gamelyn?

I have to thank Jo for her favourable review of Redemptor Domus. I was inspired to take up the pen after reading Roger Peyrefitte’s 1944 magnum opus Les Amitiés Particulière. Four years in the making, the resulting product is perhaps best described as an inspirational tragedy. Ultimately it can be a spiritual challenge, depending upon the reader’s susceptibilities. I have striven to give the narrative depth such that it invites a re-read. I have also striven to lighten that not inconsiderable load by using a detached writing style interspersed with literary leitmotifs and the occasional guffaw! Whether it achieves those objectives is for others to say.

I am sorry to learn tht John Wicks thinks no-cares about the High Street. The Hythe Chamber of Commerce and Tourism certainly does - by organising and funding the activities mentioned in the news story which prompted his comment. We agree there is room for improvement and several projects aimed to help matters are in the pipeline. They will be announced in the local media and on our website www.hytheguide.co.uk - in due course.

As a not-for-profit organisation, the chamber operates independently of the town council. The local authority is represented, however, on our executive committee and I will bring Mr. Wick's views to the attention of councillors.
